Oriental Heritage for Today's Well-being

In the forties, a Japanese family, Mr. Luis lwadare and his wife, decided to reside in Mexico City. In the backyard of their house, they started to sell vegetables and food basically used in Japanese cooking. Seeking the ingredients that were not available or not used in Mexico, Luis started to produce soy flour based on the soybean paste that remains after extracting soy oil. This was all he needed to manufacture a large variety of "Soy Food".

40 years in Mexico

Luis Iwadare was a pioneer of soy products for human nutrition (previously used only as animal fodder). Over the years and with the increase of products and sales, a company called "Proteina Soya, S.A." is constituted. In 1976, a modern Industrial Plant to respond to the growth becomes necessary. Due to a big investment in real estate, by 1978 "Proteina Soya, S.A." has big liquidity problems and is no longer able to acquire raw material. The company discontinues the supply of its customers which, in turn, hold back their payments, thus increasing the lack of liquidity even more.

By 1979, the financial situation becomes untenable and the company has to be sold.

At the present time, Alpro is making an effort to conserve the inherited tradition and produces in addition a large variety of products, taking advantage of the high nutritional value of soybeans: food such as pasta and atoles, and sweets such as Brinquitos.

Aware of the responsibility food processing implies, Alpro obtains fruit directly from farmers in Veracruz and Puebla. All other raw materials are carefully chosen among suppliers complying with our quality control and, of course with the requirements of our customers.
